What are the Montana Equine Doctors up to:

PanAmerican Games 2019, Lima Peru

Dr. Heidmann served as the Head of Internal Medicine for the PanAmerican Games in Lima, Peru, August 2019.

The seaside city of Lima was decorated with banners welcoming all type of Olympic athletes from archery to wresting, but the vet team never strayed far from the equine venue, as they were required to be on-call 24/7 to help with sick or injured horses.  The vet team included veterinarians from Peru, Mexico, Columbia, and the U.S.  Dr. Heidmann was in charge of internal medicine, diagnostic ultrasound, and anesthesia, among other aspects of specialized equine care.

The PanAm Games are an exciting preview of Olympic events of dressage, 3-day eventing, and show jumping; this edition of the games was not exception.  These world-class equine athletes, riders, and their teams shipped into Lima from all over the Americas to compete and qualify for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics, which will take place in Japan.
