Dr. Heidmann recently served as part of the veterinary team at the PanAmerican games in Guadalajara, Mexico (Oct 14th – 30th). In two beautiful sites in and around Guadalajara (The Guadalajara Country Club, and the Hippica (aka Hippodrome or Equestrian Park) outside of the city, world class equine athletes from all over the Americas (from Chile and Argentina to Canada and Trinidad) competed in dressage, cross country, and stadium jumping, as well as the pentathalon (which includes a jumping portion).
As the staff internal medicine specialist, Dr. Heidmann was responsible for the typical internal medicine and performance problems, for example neuromuscular, metabolic, or respiratory problems. While in Mexico, he also performed performance horse lameness exams, radiographs, and ultrasound on equine athletes in both Guadalajara and Mexico City. Dr. Heidmann was honored to be a part of the impressive team of Mexican and U.S. veterinarians who staffed the equine hospital at the hippodrome.
Dr. Sergio Salinas’ beautiful EQ CO VET hospital (shown below) was the main treatment area for the equestrian portion of the games.
